The students in Mrs. Waleik’s seminar have been designing their own T-shirts. They are learning how to silk screen. Silk screening is the process of creating a print by covering the negative space with a masking fluid (we used Mod-Podge) and dragging ink across the positive space (the area without masking fluid). The silk screening process begins with creating the frame for a screen. In this case, we used a special screen fabric pulled tight through an embroidery hoop. After we mask our negative space, we start the inking process by dragging ink across our screen and letting it fill in the positive space. Students do a test run on black paper to see if there are any areas they need to fill in. The end results are one-of-a-kind!

Thank you for posting the various projects you are doing with the students at MVMS. They are amazing! Way to instill a love of Art into the youth of our community.
